Catch The Cache

Catch the Cache is a Welcome Week event for new students designed by universities in collaboration with Geocaching. It incorporates geocaching (an outdoor treasure hunting activity that uses GPS coordinates) with learning the campus and town that they are on.

There is a kick-off event that new students can attend where they will download the free Catch the Cache app and then create an account and answer some questions about themselves. The app places them in a small group of people with similar interests. The group can then start geocaching together. The geocaches are strategically placed around the campus and town in locations that new students should know about, and each cache includes a little information about each location.

There is a prize ceremony at the end of the week where everyone can collect their prizes. The Catch the Cache app links to the App Store where students who enjoyed the event can download the official Geocaching app, so the fun doesn’t have to stop.
